Hey! Let’s start with a little intro to yourself, who is Just Jane for those that don’t know?

I'm a DJ and producer who delves into sounds across the UK bass and UK techno spectrum, with a particular focus on dark and percussive elements. I've been actively involved in the music scene for over three years now.

What was your first experience behind the decks and what’s your journey been like, so far?

My first experience as a DJ was in 2021, towards the end of lockdown. I had wanted to DJ for many years, so I decided to dedicate as much time as possible to learning, ensuring I wouldn’t have any regrets. I’m incredibly grateful for my journey so far—I've achieved things I never could have expected. Most importantly, I feel prepared for the opportunities that have come my way, which has been an amazing experience.

"Honestly, I think that was the first time I had a female MC on a live set ..."

As someone who is classically trained, do you find it intersects with your DJing a lot?

Being involved in classical music has definitely been helpful—it trains your ears in a unique way. This has been especially useful when working with melodies and mixing in key.

How did growing up in South London

influence your taste in music?

Certain sounds really stand out in this area, especially grime, dubstep, and dancehall, which might not be as prominent in other cities across the UK. Especially when I was growing up, Grime sounds were so popular which is why I always go back to those sounds.

"... people I would shoutout are ESC, Nik Fury, Frankie P, MSFT, fonzo, yemz, Theorist, Kable."

You play a lot of Grime infused tracks in your sets - what do you think about the current Grime ‘revivial’ happening at the moment?

I would say Grime never left it’s just genres ebb in flow in terms of popularity and various other factors. It’s great to see people receptive to the genre though.

As well as Grime, you stay genre fluid in your sets - what are some of your favourite genres to play?

I would say my favourite thing is to blend in between genres but I love playing anything percussive, funky and bass driven!

You recently played a Balaami set with Sexy Lady Massive’s, Missy P. How often is it that you get to DJ with a female MC and how important is it to push open doors for more women in music?

Honestly, I think that was the first time I had a female MC on a live set, which is wild to think about! It's so important—nowadays, there's a conscious effort to create more opportunities for women in music. Diversity in music fosters a better environment for everyone, both now and for future generations.

Who are some upcoming DJs, Artists or Producers that you would recommend?

There is so much amazing talent from all over the world. Some people I would shoutout are ESC, Nik Fury, Frankie P, MSFT, fonzo, yemz, Theorist, Kable.

What’s your unwritten rule of the rave?

Just be respectful of everyone, leave your ego at home for real!

What’s coming up for 2025?

I’ve got some exciting shows and festivals coming up, including a few bucket-list venues, which I’m so grateful for. I’m also finalising some releases, which feels amazing after putting so much effort into my production work!
