Who is Coco and how did you get into DJing?

I am a drum and bass DJ, and aspiring producer, born and raised in South London. Coco is known for showcasing the rawest, dark, techy rollers across London and further afield. I have been DJ’ing for about four years now. I got into DJ’ing through my love of minimal/tech drum and bass, and through the encouragement and support of a very good friend.

If you had to describe your vibe as a DJ in three words, what would they be?

As a DJ, I would describe myself as deep, dark and captivating.

You recently played on a Boat in Hackney for Pirate Radio London, how was it and is it the strangest place you’ve ever played a set?

Yes, I played a set on a pirate boat for Pirate Radio London back in the summer! It was such a fun experience and definitely the quirkiest place I’ve played a set so far. It was so funny watching people’s reactions as we went up and down the canal blasting heavy DnB!

What’s been your favourite set to play this year, so far?

Tough one, but my favourite set of 2024 was probably going b2b with my best friend Pathogen at his event Cue:Rated, with one of my favourite artists headlining, Ed:it.

What’s one track you always include in your sets?

One track I always include in my sets is Wushu by Phentix

What’s your unwritten rave rule that you wish everybody abided by?

There needs to be personal space in the rave! Stop pushing up against people!

Do you produce and is releasing your own music something you are looking towards in the future?

I recently started learning how to produce drum and bass, which I am really enjoying. It’s a lot to take in but I am motivated and ready for the challenge. I look forward to creating my own minimalistic beats, but also going back to the roots of liquid and creating soulful sounds.

What’s your favourite part about playing on radio?

I was recently on Thames Delta and EXT radio, which were both so much fun, I loved it. Playing on the radio is always a great experience. You get to meet people, try out new tunes, and just have fun with it.

"The smaller stations are so important to me! They are authentic and original ..."

How important do find the smaller stations are for breaking new talent and giving a platform to emerging DJs?

The smaller stations are so important to me! They are authentic and original, and I always listen when I’m driving, which is how I come across them. They make so much effort to introduce new talent and give DJs an opportunity.

What are some of your favourite stations that you would recommend?

My favourite stations I’d recommend are infrared FM, WK-END FM, Rude FM and Thames Delta.

What’s coming up for 2025?

Coming up for 2025, I am going to start producing minimal drum and bass! I have been keen to get into production for a while now, but I am making it happen as we speak, so watch this space.
